#7 – Beware of “Urgent” Messages

Scammers often rely on urgency to trick you into acting without thinking. Emails, texts, or calls claiming that something must be done immediately are red flags.

1. Common urgent scams

Examples you might see:

  • “Your account will be closed if you don’t act now!”

  • “Your boss needs a gift card immediately!”

  • “Invoice overdue—pay immediately!”

High-pressure messages are designed to make you panic, click links, or give sensitive information before verifying the source.

2. How to stay safe

  • Slow down: Don’t act impulsively, even if it seems urgent.

  • Verify the sender: Contact the company or person directly using known, official channels.

  • Check for red flags: Poor grammar, suspicious email addresses, or unexpected attachments are warning signs.

  • Never share sensitive information: Passwords, PINs, or financial info should never be sent in response to an urgent message.

3.  Think before you click
A little skepticism goes a long way. If a message pressures you to act immediately, treat it as suspicious and double-check before taking any action.
