IT Tip #3 – Use Strong, Unique Passwords

Strong, unique passwords are one of the simplest ways to protect your accounts.

1. Why strong passwords matter

Attackers use automated tools, and stolen password lists to break into accounts. If you reuse a password, one breached site can lead to a chain reaction of compromised accounts.

2. What makes a strong password?

A secure password should be:

  • Long: 12–16+ characters
  • Complex: mix letters, numbers, and symbols
  • Unpredictable: avoid names or common words
  • Unique: never used on more than one account

3.  Never reuse passwords
If one service is hacked, attackers will try that same password on your email, banking, social media, and more.

4. Use a password manager

A password manager:

  • Creates strong, unique passwords
  • Stores them safely
  • Autofill's login details
  • Helps you replace weak or reused passwords
