#5 – Connect to Secure Wi-Fi Only

Not all Wi-Fi networks are safe. Public or unsecured networks—like those in cafés, airports, or hotels—can expose your data to anyone connected.

1. Why public wi-fi is risky

Unsecured networks can allow attackers to:

  • Monitor the websites you visit
  • Capture usernames and passwords
  • Access your email or cloud accounts
  • Inject malicious content into your connection

2. How to stay safe

Whenever possible, connect only to:

  • Secure networks that require a password

  • Trusted networks like your home or office

  • Networks you recognize and know are maintained properly

3.  If you must use public wi-fi

Take extra steps to protect yourself:

  • Use a VPN to encrypt your connection

  • Use your mobile hotspot for sensitive tasks

  • Avoid logging into important accounts like email, banking, or work systems

  • Stick to HTTPS websites only

A secure connection is the first line of defense against cyber threats. When in doubt, don’t connect, or switch to your hotspot until you’re on a trusted network.
