The Role

A Hands-On Cabling Job With a Real IT Team Behind It

World Network Systems is hiring a Cable Technician to join our field team in Philadelphia. You'll spend your day on client sites running and terminating network cable, building out network closets, and mounting the Wi-Fi access points and cameras that ride on that cable.

You don't need to know everything yet. You need to show up, use your head, and do the work right. If you're comfortable working with your hands, logical in how you troubleshoot, and reliable, we'll teach you the rest — including the IT side, so you can grow beyond cabling.

Our structured cabling work is done in occupied buildings: offices, schools, and operating hotels. That means clean work, finished walls, and respect for the people who are still working around you.

What You'll Actually Do

Cable Installation Across Philadelphia

No two days are the same. On any given day you might be:

Cabling & Infrastructure

  • Pulling CAT6 cable through drop ceilings, finished walls, and existing pathways
  • Terminating and punching down keystones, jacks, and patch panels
  • Testing every run and fixing anything that fails
  • Labeling runs and patch panels so the next tech can find everything
  • Building out racks, patch panels, and cable management in network closets (MDF/IDF)
  • Mounting and cabling wireless access points in ceilings and hallways
  • Installing and testing IP cameras and basic security hardware

Field IT Support

  • Setting up workstations — unboxing, imaging, domain join, printer mapping
  • Troubleshooting connectivity — cables, ports, IP configuration
  • Swapping failed hardware — drives, batteries, peripherals
  • Logging your work in our ticketing system with clear notes and photos
  • Escalating what you can't solve to our senior engineer — knowing when to call is a skill
  • Representing WNS professionally — you're the face clients see every day
What We're Looking For

Requirements

  • Some hands-on experience with network cabling, low-voltage work, or IT field support — or a real willingness to learn it and do it right
  • Comfortable on ladders, in ceilings, and lifting cable boxes and equipment
  • Basic troubleshooting — you test one thing at a time and don't give up when something doesn't make sense
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license — you'll drive to client sites daily
  • Live in Philadelphia or the surrounding area
  • Comfortable working around non-technical staff in offices, schools, and hotels
Bonus, Not Required

Nice to Have

  • Low-voltage, electrician, or telecom installer background
  • BICSI training, or CompTIA A+ / Network+ (or studying for one)
  • Experience with cable testers and certifiers
  • Exposure to UniFi, Meraki, or managed switches
  • IP camera or access-control installation
  • VoIP phone systems or hotel systems (PMS, door locks, POS)
Character & Work Ethic

These Matter as Much as the Technical Skills

Shows Up

On time, every time. Clients plan their day around you being there.

Takes Ownership

If a run fails or a ceiling tile is left out of place, you fix it before you leave.

Honest

Ask when you're stuck and write down the answer. We'd rather train you than have you guess.

About Us

Why World Network Systems

World Network Systems is a managed IT services provider headquartered in Bala Cynwyd, PA, serving nonprofit, education, and hospitality clients across Philadelphia, New Jersey, State College, Boston, Atlanta, and beyond.

Our team is small, which means your work matters and clients know your name. Cabling is where many of our best technicians start: you'll learn networking and Wi-Fi, camera systems, and day-to-day IT support from the people who design and run these networks.

See the kind of work you'd be doing: our Philadelphia network cabling projects, including 141 cable runs for Bebashi's Philadelphia office.
